(Ivanhoe Newswire) -- Pregnant women may have a non-drug treatment option for depression that's safer on their unborn baby. Researchers found acupuncture can positively affect the treatment of depression for pregnant women. Currently, dealing with depression during pregnancy can be difficult due to the risks medications pose on unborn babies. A new study included 150 participants who received eight weeks of treatment of either acupuncture specific for depression (SPEC), control acupuncture or massage therapy. The women who received the acupuncture for depression experienced the greatest decrease in depression severity. "The results of our study show that the acupuncture protocol we tested could be a viable treatment option for depression during pregnancy," study author Dr. Schnyer was quoted as saying. Parent: South Fayette Middle School Student Behind PagePOSTED: 10:50 pm EST February 4, 2010 PITTSBURGH -- A local mom says she's appalled and disgusted about a Facebook page encouraging teenage pregnancy. But the name of the page -- Increase Teen Pregnancy -- would be enough to shock any parent. The page only has a few members, but parents are afraid that number could grow."Your child, first of all, is not allowed to have a Facebook page unless they are 13 years old and some of these members are not even 13," said a woman who did not want to be identified, but told Channel 4 Action News' Tara Edwards that her child received an invitation to join the group. The page solicits kids ranging from 12 to 17 years old to join the group. It features pictures of several pregnant teenagers, with members posting profane comments riddled with sexual undertones. The woman who spoke to Channel 4 said the person responsible for starting the group is a middle school student in the South Fayette School District."I was disgusted. I'm disgusted, it's horrible. Teen pregnancy is not a good thing."South Fayette Superintendent Dr. Bille Rondinelli told Edwards via telephone that she had not heard of the Facebook group, but that the incident is under investigation.Rondinelli said the district attorney's office recently conducted a presentation with middle school students on the dangers of the Internet.

GIRLS as young as 13 are to be offered pregnancy tests at UK schools in a controversial scheme, The Sun reported. Chlamydia screening and referrals to sex specialists will also be available at drop-in clinics in secondary schools, The Sun reported. Council chiefs wrote to parents of girls aged 13 and over to promote the pilot scheme at five schools in Liverpool. But family campaigners said the plan sends out the wrong message. Adrian Rogers of Family Focus said: "It's going to promote promiscuity." Norman Wells of the Family Education Trust said: "It sends out the message it's normal for schoolchildren to engage in sexual activity." The pregnancy rate for girls aged 15 to 17 is nearly 52 per 1,000 in Liverpool. The national average is 41.7. Liverpool Primary Care Trust said accessible sexual health services will help cut teen pregnancies. Five Filters featured article: Chilcot Inquiry.
