Hypertension is a very dangerous condition where the force exerted by the blood against the walls of the arteries is quite high. Many people are at risk of suffering from high blood pressure. People who are overweight, patients with diabetes and even pregnant women are at risk of suffering from it. There is a condition that affects pregnant women making them suffer from high blood pressure. Preeclampsia is when a pregnant woman suffers from hypertension. It normally manifests during the second and third trimester of pregnancy.

The condition sometimes continues even after couple of weeks of giving birth. Preeclampsia can suddenly increase the blood pressure of a pregnant woman by 30mmHg (systolic blood pressure) and by 15mmHg (diastolic blood pressure). A person with suffering from it will also have a high concentration of protein in the urine. Roughly 10% of the women will have this condition on their first pregnancy.

Causes of the condition

True cause of the condition is unknown but there are certain factors that could lead to the illness. Family history, some vitamins and mineral deficiencies, suffering from diabetes, high blood pressure and sometimes if the hormones that control blood vessels are unbalanced, could be triggers to this illness. Another possible reason is the poor development of blood vessels in the placenta of the pregnant woman. This situation can cause blood vessels to constrict leading to the increase in blood pressure.

Preeclampsia have to be treated as soon as it is detected otherwise it can develop into Toxemia. This is extremely dangerous for the mother and the child inside her. This disease can cause the mother to fall in a coma and sometimes even death. There are certain symptoms that could indicate the presence of this ailment. A pregnant woman experiencing headaches, problems in her vision, some swelling especially in the extremities and sudden weight gain.

How to prevent it

You might be able to reduce the chances of experiencing this condition by following some simple tips. Decreasing the amount of stress and anxiety in your life can definitely make a difference. Try calming music before going to bed and do not worry yourself about everyday situations. Remember being worried does not solve any problem, it will just cause more. Since dehydration is one of the elements that can trigger the disease, drinking a good amount of water everyday can help in preventing it. Sometimes a pregnant woman will suffer nausea just from seeing the water, so in those cases the fluid can be provided by eating ice.

Infertility, Meditation, & Herbalism

As many of us may or may not be aware, meditation is a way of promoting our body's self-healing mechanisms. Meditation benefits by stress reduction, increased relaxation thus reducing the levels of stress hormones produced by the pituitary and adrenal glands; both are endocrine glands which secret hormones into our bloodstream necessary for normal growth and development, reproduction, and homeostasis (i.e., the balancing of one's metabolism). Keep in mind that the major glands of the endocrine system include the hypothalamus, pituitary, thyroid, islets of Algerians, adrenals, parathyroids, ovaries, and testes. As defined by physicians, infertility is the inability of a female to become pregnant after approximately a year of unprotected sexual intercourse. It has been believed by our ancient pundits on this topic that complimenting meditation with herbalism generally increases fertility in both men and women barring no other major, contributory biological and physiological dysfunctions.

According to "Prevention Magazine", fertility studies (up to circa 1995, United States) have concluded that the male has a 35% part in the cause of infertility between male and female partners; another 35% of the cause of infertility cases studied involved the female reproductive system centered around possible damaged and/or blocked fallopian tubes with many possible causes such as hormone deficiencies, infections, endometriosis, cysts, and STDs; a woman's age, being age 35 years or older; the last 30% of the cases studied concluded that there is a combination of existing medical problems along with the cause of female infertility being unknown. Having a basis of understanding of these associations is important.

The specific cause of infertility should always be diagnosed by a physician before considering possible solutions.

[1] The following herbal therapies may help in stress reduction and increase fertility-both herbs are natural relaxants:

A. Ginseng (capsules or tea from the root)

B. Lemon Balm (tea)

[2] The following herbal and alternative therapies may help:

A. Pomegranate Flower-Essence therapy (pomegranate was a symbol of fertility during ancient times and the flowers of it balance the female reproductive system) - Per Dr. Cynthia M. Watson, M.D. (Santa Monica, CA)

B. Foot & Hand Reflexology (working the reflex points for the female reproductive system)

C. Herbal Vitex agnus-castus

D. Page 246 of Scott Cunningham's "Encyclopedia of Magical Herbs" (1985) has an exhaustive list of fertility herbs. [3] Rosemary Gladstar's book "Herbal Healing for Women" (1993) addresses many female infertility issues.

Pregnancy is a major milestone in a woman's life. You experience mood swings like you've never experienced before. Your beasts get larger and your tummy grows bigger by the day. And you have a lovely little creature moving inside you - a truly strange yet fascinating experience. As fascinating an experience as it is, it can all comes as a shock and occasionally you find yourself anxious. Why not ease up your anxiety by spending time outdoors?

Your being pregnant should not stop you from enjoying pool and beach fashion. You'll be surprised by the fun you get from shopping for maternity swimwear. Besides, it's not often that you get to do this.

Go for Maternity Swimwear, not standard Plus-Size

You never imagined that you would get there. But yes, you're actually thinking about plus-size this time. You can't just settle for the usual plus-size swimwear though, as these swimsuits are differently constructed compared to swimwear especially designed for pregnant women. You'll find that they would not fit right. So make sure that you buy maternity swimwear and that you go to the right shop.

Important Factors to Consider

So what should you consider when choosing the right maternity swimwear? It all boils down to four important factors: comfort, support, size and style. These are arranged in order of importance. And they work hand in hand. Case in point - with the right size and support, comes comfort.

Keep it Fashionable

You want to make the whole experience fun and memorable. What better way to do this than to make yourself look fabulous while you're at it? It all boils down to the right fashion sense and good taste.

Luckily for you, internet shops have every style of maternity swimsuits you could possibly want. Feeling a bit modest and want the most popular style, the tankini? No problem. Want to push things a bit and go with a pregnant bikini? You will find plenty. How about a maternity thong? Believe it or not, they are out there!

It's hard to get it wrong with all the options available at stores on the net. Go ahead and have a great time shopping and then hanging out on the beach or at the pool in your hot maternity swimwear!

It is not every day that you get pregnant. It is undoubtedly a joyous and memorable occasion, something worth celebrating for. Then again, this should not make you forget or neglect the things you like. If you are the active type and if you love to spend the day in the pool, then go ahead and do so.

Exercise is a Must

If you're thinking that it's unlikely for a pregnant woman to be out leading an active lifestyle, much less be found clad in a bikini in public, then you must read on. Pregnancy does not necessarily mean the end of your normal life. You can still go on taking a long walk or taking your usual running routine - whatever suits you. If it's swimming, then there's definitely no stopping you. As a matter of fact, most doctors would recommend, if not oblige you, to do some appropriate exercise. This helps ease up your otherwise highly strenuous life.

Your Maternity Swimwear

If you are caught up in the belief that pregnant bikinis would not work for you what with your bulging belly, you could never be more mistaken. There's nothing sexier than a woman who can still pull it off, despite her pregnancy. Pregnancy is unique to women and is in itself an erotic phase. Matching this with the right maternity thong swimsuit is something men only imagine in their greatest fantasies. A pregnant bikini might very well be for you!

Keep it simple yet sexy. Being sexy requires the right attitude, and it's hard to keep the right attitude if you're not comfortable. It all boils down to being your natural self and to being able to strut the right stuff. You are not strutting it right if you don't feel good about yourself, or if you feel the least discomfort. Go ahead and choose the right maternity swimwear for you and you'll love the pool or beach!
