Ginger For Pregnancy Sickness - Why and How You Should Use it Posted: 06 Dec 2009 05:54 AM PST Women often use ginger for pregnancy sickness to provide relief from the nausea and to generally settle their stomach. It can be found in various forms and can be used in various ways. Not everyone is really aware of the reasoning behind using ginger for pregnancy sickness and how you should use it as part of your lifestyle. Being pregnant should be a joyous experience for any woman. You are glowing, radiant and feeling extremely excited about the little life that has begun to grow inside you. Suddenly all that positive energy can change when you start to feel a wave of nausea washing over you. You are not surprised. Morning sickness is a common and expected side effect from being pregnant. Some women simply put up with the condition, and then feel nauseous for several months, as they are worried about taking medication that might have an impact on their baby. However, there are natural options available that can provide relief from the major symptoms of the condition. One of the most popular and successful options is ginger. Why Ginger? For many centuries, ginger (Zingiber officinale) has been used for medicinal purposes due to the great healing properties that it possesses. It is well known for improving health and increasing feelings of well-being. As a result, it has been prized for hundreds of years by many cultures in places like Asian, India, and Africa. It has always been regarded as possessing warming or heating attributes for the body and is also used in the Asian medicine tradition to alleviate nausea and general stomach upset. In addition, it is also believed to help with other health conditions including menstrual problems, heart conditions, and sore throats. These healing properties are now being recognized by modern medicine. Studies have now indicated that ginger can also assist in helping to reduce sickness associated with pregnancy. From many trials that have looked at the palliative nature of ginger, all of them concluded that over half of the pregnant women who had tried ginger felt improved health once they began to use it. How To Use Ginger For Morning Sickness Ginger can be seen in many different forms including tablets, powders, capsules and tinctures (which is an alcohol-based derivative of the ginger plant). There are other common items that contain ginger too such as cakes, candy, biscuits and ginger ale (the ones made with real ginger at least). It is common for some women to feel queasy very early in the day - even before they get out of bed. A way to reduce this nausea is to nibble on a few ginger biscuits or crackers as soon as you wake up and before you get moving. Just plan ahead by leaving some next to the bed before you go to sleep. You may also feel the effects of pregnancy sickness during the day when traveling somewhere or even at work. Ginger can assist here too. Just carry a few ginger lollipops or candies in your bag and use them when you start to feel a bit queasy. These items are readily available in health stores or online. Herbal tea is another option that you can consider. Relaxing with a cup of ginger tea is a good way to end a stressful or active day. Ginger is a natural and proven choice to relieve some of the problems associated with morning sickness. Used appropriately, and in moderation, it can be a very real treatment option for women to consider. This content has passed through fivefilters.org. ![]() |
Cervical Mucus Fertility Issues Made Simple Posted: 05 Dec 2009 01:42 PM PST Cervical mucus is a vital component of female fertility, and it is also a reliable measure of fertility in plotting the monthly cycle. Yet it is a subject that few people, even those with fertility issues, know very much about, so let's take a closer look. Cervical mucus is a jelly-like substance secreted through tiny glands in the cervix. Its job is to provide a protective and favorable environment for sperm in their journey up the cervix and into the fallopian tubes towards the egg. Sperm can survive for up to three days from intercourse, provided the cervical mucus is of sufficient quality. In normally fertile women the quality of the cervical mucus can be likened to a wave which rises and falls rhythmically throughout the menstrual cycle. The top of the wave coincides with ovulation and the time of maximum fertility. At this point the cervical mucus is very fertile, lubricious and what is referred to as of "peak type". As the cycle progresses, hormonal fluctuations cause the consistency to change until it is of "non peak" type, sometimes referred to as "hostile" i.e. not lubricious, thicker (so no sperm can penetrate it), and definitely not fertile. At these times, of course, the body is taking a rest as there's no need for fertility, there being no egg that can be fertilised. The approximate stage of a fertile woman's cycle can be determined by examining the quality of the cervical mucus. Maximum fertility occurs when it is clear and slippery, and can be lifted and stretched a little, rather like an egg white. At other times, when conception cannot take place, it is thin in depth, sticky, cloudy or brownish, and cannot be stretched. If the quality of the cervical mucus throughout the cycle is, at best, no better than sticky, with no lift or stretch, then it is not fertile at any time. It is thick, unlubricious and dry, and not capable of supporting sperm. With such a condition, a woman is infertile. However, there are ways of overcoming such infertility. These are mainly natural methods that have been found to boost the quality and quantity of cervical mucus, such as drinking plenty of grapefruit and pineapple juice. Evening primrose oil is rich in essential fatty acids and helps to enrich the cervical mucus, making it to be of greater quantity and more lubricious, but should only be taken from day 1 to around day 14 of the cycle, or when ovulation has taken place, as it can cause contractions, A substance called "guipesien", found in certain types of cough mixture that are mostly available over the counter, is also known to assist the body in producing a better quality of mucus, and more of it. Two teaspoons of it three times a day has been recommended, though increasing to the maximum recommended dosage if there are no noticeable changes after a few days. Try increasing your water intake as well. You also have the option of acupuncture treatment for infertility issues, which has proved effective in thousands of cases. But as with any self-prescribed medication or treatment, the advice of a specialist should always be sought beforehand. Subject to this, you should now know how to self-diagnose problems relating to cervical mucus and your fertility, and five possible ways to alleviate them. Tips on How to Get Pregnant If You're Having Trouble Conceiving a Baby Posted: 05 Dec 2009 01:31 PM PST Are you anxious to become a mother and are tired of waiting? Do you see mothers with babies in stores and feel your arms ache as you yearn to have and hold your own child? If this is you, then you have probably been trying to become pregnant, and searching for ways to improve your odds. Here you will some tips on how to get pregnant if you're having trouble conceiving a baby. 1. It is imperative that you keep track of your menstrual cycles. Knowing when your periods are will allow you to know when you are the most fertile. Your highest chance for conception is when you are ovulating. Ovules must be present for sperm to fuse with in order to conceive the child you are anxiously awaiting. Therefore, the ovule count should be high for the best chances of success. Once you know when this is during the month, you will be able to be sure you take advantage of that time to make love. 2. Every month you secrete mucous during certain times, and the texture and type of that mucous is important. When the mucous is occurring more frequently and it is more elastic, your uterus is ready and waiting for a developing fetus. 3. In order to conceive it is important to follow a healthy lifestyle. You will want to avoid alcohol and smoking while trying to conceive. Both habits can have a negative effect on your reproductive organs and may lower your chances of conceiving your child. Therefore, you will want to enjoy nutritious food to nourish your body and daily exercises to keep yourself healthy. Staying healthy and fit will help prepare your body for the sperm, fertilization and egg implantation. You may also want to educate yourself on this very scientific process since knowing exactly what to expect can help you to speed up the process. This will help you to accelerate conception, and bring you that much closer to your final desire of motherhood. This content has passed through fivefilters.org. ![]() |
