2 Options For Trying to Conceive a Pregnancy After Tubal Ligation

Posted: 01 Sep 2009 10:05 AM PDT

Some women who undergo tubal ligation will at some stage in the future wish to get pregnant. When a woman is trying to conceive following tubal ligation there are a couple of options available to her. However, whichever option a woman chooses to achieve a pregnancy after tubal ligation, there are no guarantees that they will help her to achieve her dreams.

So what are the options for a woman who is trying to conceive after undergoing the form of female sterilization known as tubal ligation? Below we look at the two main options that women have.

Option 1 - In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)

This is not only a very expensive way for you to have a pregnancy after tubal ligation but you may need to undergo several treatments in order to achieve success. With this particular option, you will be required to take certain hormones which helps to increase the possibility of several eggs being released from your ovaries. There are several tests and ultrasounds along the way to check on the development of ovarian follicles. Once the eggs are developed, they are removed from the body via a needle through the vaginal wall, fertilized by sperm and allowed to mature a bit, and then implanted into the uterus through the cervix.

With this particular option the success rate is 10 to 25%. But this varies greatly and will depend on which clinic you go to for the procedure. When trying to conceive with this option, you do face a greater chance of a multiple pregnancy. Twins and triplets are not uncommon and stories of more not unheard of including the rather famous case of Octomom.

Option 2 - Tubal Ligation Reversal

Although this treatment is also costly it is not as expensive as IVF. On average, it is a few thousand less than the above option. In addition, if you are wise in your selection of doctors, the surgery can be performed on an out-patient basis.

With this procedure the surgeon will need to make an incision in order to reach the fallopian tubes where he will remove the blocked parts and then reconnect the ends that are open. In many cases the incision is quite small and usually you can return to light daily activities quickly. If you are an office worker, you can schedule surgery on a Thursday or Friday and be ready to return to work on Monday provided you are gentle with yourself.

With this option the woman will also need to refrain from trying to conceive for at least a month following the reversal procedure to allow the reconnected fallopian tubes to heal properly. Unlike IVF, there is a much greater chance of a woman becoming pregnant. Records show that around 70% of all women who have this procedure performed will become pregnant within a year. Chances depend upon your age, the type of tubal ligation, and length of the fallopian tubes left after the damage from the tubal ligation is removed. Due to this, a pregnancy after tubal ligation may be best achieved via tubal reversal.

Most people who have watched the Law of Attraction movie, The Secret, walk away with one of two reactions: skepticism or complete enthusiasm. Skeptics might say something like, "That's not true! I lost my job last year and had to move out of my house. I didn't make that happen!" On the other hand, many enthusiasts will begin a wishful thinking campaign and talk about their utopian visions of the world. These people may also end up frustrated because they too will fail to experience dramatic positive change in their lives.

At face value, these two groups might seem very different. But when you understand the Law of Attraction, you will see that their mindset is indeed quite similar. In both cases, they expect the outer world to create their inner world, when in fact the opposite is true.

Making the Law of Attraction work depends on action. For the skeptic, she cannot sit in her living room staring at four walls and wish for a new job to fall into her lap. She must search for a new job or take the loss of employment as an opportunity to create the job she has always dreamed of. For the enthusiast, the same is true. She cannot simply talk about the world being a better place without actively working towards that goal. As the lottery slogan says, "You have to be in it to win it".

In short, the universe lines up behind doers. And if you really want the universe to work with you, the best place to begin is with yourself. In the years before I met Joe, I gave little thought to the impact of my actions. My life was motivated by fear and other destructive emotions. I worked 10-12 hour days, hung out late every night, and always tried to please others while my health and healthy relationships took a backseat.

But after my intestinal surgery, I experienced a dramatic shift. I came home from the hospital and ended a very dysfunctional four-year relationship. Over the next several months, I took time to enjoy my time alone. I practiced flamenco and belly dance, read for pleasure, prepared more meals at home, took long baths with candles burning and opera blasting throughout my apartment, and had friends visit on weekends. The first thing I noticed was that my bank account grew, even though I was enjoying my money more! And within a few months, I met Joe. Our connection was so perfectly synchronistic that we both knew we would be together for a long, long time. After my battle with failing health, I was blessed with a beautiful and robust little girl who has none of my previous health challenges.

So if you want the Law of Attraction to work in your life, begin to take action. I promise you, the universe will reveal an amazing plan before you. If you want a new job, find out what you want to do and start working toward it. If you want a healthy relationship, start caring for yourself first. And if you want a baby who is free of the burdens of asthma, allergies and autism spectrum disorders, start preparing your body now.

Pregnancy Due Date Calculator

Posted: 01 Sep 2009 08:46 AM PDT

Due date calculators are generally considered accurate within 7 days. Typically, most practitioners don't adjust due dates in either direction if the discrepancy between the two possible dates is less than 7 days. And that's true even of early ultrasounds.

There are generally two ways of measuring a pregnancy, LMP (last menstrual period) and gestational. Most due date calculators go by LMP, which calculates a pregnancy at 40 weeks or 10 lunar (4 week) months.
LMP would mean that ovulation took place in your 2nd week of pregnancy (day 14). Gestational starts from the date of ovulation resulting in a 38 week pregnancy. So if you know the date of ovulation you can calculate where you are by either LMP or gestational.

The ultrasound technology may give you an odd date because they may not use either of these; they sometimes take the rate of development and change the date based on where on their scale the baby is. The Doctor may even move the due date based on this, even if you know absolutely when the baby was conceived!

Babies only have so much possible size variability throughout pregnancy and so most will be of a certain size at a certain point in the pregnancy. The later in the pregnancy you are the more individual variability among babies there is and so the less accurate the size and date estimate will be. However, for example, almost all babies will be 2 inches at 13 weeks (LMP) and each little bit bigger than that they are, an extra day would get tacked on to an ultrasound estimate.

The solution is to calculate the due date and then, unless there are complications be ready early but figure on going late. Many people have their hearts set on their due date and are so ready on their due date that when it goes by and nothing. They get pretty upset.
